what is role-playing?
In role-playing games the participants take on character roles and portray them in a fictional setting interacting with each other, the game world and the gamemasters.
what is live-action role-playing (larp)?
Live-action role-playing is a form of role-playing that has been developed during the past twenty years. It differs from more traditional role-playing games in that the participants portray their characters physically and the place where the event is held is built and decorated to look like the suroundings in the game world.
is Solmukohta a larp event or a general role-playing event?
Solmukohta is a role-playing event, that has a strong emphasis on larping. Many of the participants take part in both kinds of activities and most of the subjects discussed are applicable to both. A Week in Finland will include both live-action role-playing games as well as free form tabletop role-playing that employs methods that are interesting from a larp point of view as well.
is there an age limit for Solmukohta?
Yes. Since participants will be staying at a hotel we can't accept anyone under 15 to the event. All underage (aged 15 to 17) participants will need to bring a permisson slip signed by a legal guardian to gain access to the event.
is there a limit to the number of participants?
Yes. We have a finite amount of room available, so we will probably have to stop accepting new registrations after around 230 people have signed up.
do I need to pre-register?
Yes. We want to know who's coming, and as stated above we only have room for a limited number of participants.
I don't plan to spend the night, do I need to pay full price?
Yes. The hotel rooms are actually one of our smaller expenses. Most of the participation fee will be spent on the con programme and parties. Besides, once you find yourself still partying like there's no tomorrow at five in the morning, you might be glad a place to sleep has been reserved for you.
what's the history of Solmukohta?
Solmukohta is arranged annually in one of the Nordic countries. The tradition begun in Norway, in 1997. The event has been held twice in Oslo, twice in Stockholm, twice in Copenhagen and once in Helsinki. Next year it will be Norway's turn again.
what are Knutpunkt, Knudepunkt and Knutepunkt?
The name of Solmukohta changes depending on where the event is held. In Norway, the event is Knutepunkt, in Sweden it is Knutpunkt and in Denmark Knudepunkt (although when they pronounce it, it sounds like they are trying to spit on you). In English, they all mean Nodal Point.
