call for programme proposals

The theme of Solmukohta 2004 is 'Inspiration'. Inspiration is an essential initiating factor in role-playing, yet not enough to realise a game. The con itself seeks to be an inspiring event for the players and game-masters alike, an event at which it is possible to chat, play and mingle with gamers from around the Nordic countries and beyond, to share gaming ideas, conventions, and culture.

Solmukohta 2004 is now looking for programme.

The programme has been organised along three main threads, namely 'Larp around the World', 'Psychophysical Immersion into Character', and 'The Creation of Game Milieu', in order to avoid synchronic scheduling of similar events. Programme not fitting to any of these categories is warmly welcomed as well.

'Larp around the World' is about getting to know the playing cultures of different contries. Presentations and discussions on prominent gaming cultures, gaming styles, new inventions in both the technical aspects of gaming and the intellectual side of the story are welcomed. Also the promotions and presentations of brilliant up-coming and past games, game worlds and so on belong under this theme. The purpose of the events under this theme is to bring together a multi-national crowd to share bright ideas and swell conventions on gaming in the spirit of creative dialogue.

'Psychophysical Immersion into Character' is a theme under which programme concerning the player's preparation for a gaming event will be held. Discussions, workshops and panels on immersion practises, make-up and costumes, body language, character writing, and other topics concerning the creation of a character, both from the point of view of the organizer and the player are warmly welcomed. The purpose of this thread of programme is to introduce and acquire techniques, ideas and conventions that ease up, deepen or transform the experience of the character or the gamer.

'The Creation of Game Milieu' gathers together topics concerning gaming milieus. Lectures, workshops and discussions on the practises of staging, light and sound design and engineering, safety, the creation and organization of heavy-duty props (such as fantasy villages, pyrotechnics, beasts and the like), and budgeting, for example, are highly welcomed. The purpose of this programme thread is to share knowledge on the creation and organization of the physical, emotional and intellectual aspects of a gaming experience.

Proposals for programme should include the topic or title of the event, and the contact information of the organizer. In addition, a short explanation of the content of the programme, its form (such as workshop, panel discussion, Q&A -discussion, discussion, lecture, show, promotion, presentation, etc...), and knowledge on the minimum resource requirements for organizing the programme (such as lecture room, data projector, a kitchen, specific make-up, 20 meters of fabric, etc...) are crucial information in the program proposal, while defining the proper programme thread is optional.

Send your proposal for programme to solmukohta-programme@ropecon.fi by 31 January 2004.
