welcome to Solmukohta
Solmukohta is a nordic role-playing convention, with a strong emphasis on live-action role-playing. In other words, it is a meeting place for people and ideas. The convention, arranged now for the 8th time, will bring together role-playing game organisers, researchers, and players for a week of lectures, debates, games, workshops, and parties.
Solmukohta 2004 will be held from the 19th to the 22nd of February at Hotel Matinlahti, in the immediate vicinity of Helsinki. The event consists of the convention itself, and A Week in Finland (or awif, as we like to call it) preceding it. The formal programme takes place during the convention weekend. A Week in Finland, on the other hand, allows foreigners to experience Finnish role-playing culture hands-on in a relaxed atmosphere.
The aim of the event is to enhance understanding of the medium of role-playing and offer a forum for international co-operation. During the convention weekend we hope to chart the future of Nordic role-playing and explore the relationship between role-playing and other art forms. But most importantly the event is about getting to know people, sharing ideas, and creating enthusiasm - hence the theme for the year 2004, Inspiration.
Solmukohta was first organized in Oslo, Norway, in 1997 under the name Knutepunkt. Since then the convention has been held in all the Nordic capitals. Helsinki hosted the event for the first time in the year 2000. This year the event is being organised by Ropecon ry, an association that annually produces the largest independent role-playing convention in Europe - Ropecon.
